Laoshan
Laoshan (in simplified Chinese??) is very famous in Qingdao. Actually, it has been known as “The first mountain in coastal area of Qingdao”. Yes, Laoshan is located at the coastal area of Yellow Sea, and the main peak of Laoshan is high as 1133 meters, which stand out at the sea. Laoshan, when you see from a distant place, looks like to connect the mountains to the sea. According to some historical records, some ancient people once said that “Even Taishan is high as the clouds, it is still not as great as the Laoshan in the eastern part of China.” From this, you could see that Laoshan is really very famous and beautiful.
In the Qin Dynasty, according to historical records, the Emperor once sent officials to visit this mountain to search for gods. In the Tang Dynasty, some emperors also sent officials to visit Laoshan to search for some incredible drugs which could extent their life. Moreover, a lot of famous people, poets, merchants, have also visit Laoshan for various purposes. For example, some poets might feel depressed and they visited Laoshan. After the visit, they would become energetic again and they would compose some poems to praise the relaxing scenery of Laoshan.
Some people also called Laoshan as “Taoism’s 2nd world-wide real jungle” because they think that some Taoists got inspirations from the visit to Laoshan and established some of the Taoism believes.
In 1982, the State Council identified Laoshan as one of the national scenic spots. Since then, much more people have visited this famous mountain. However, it is really surprising for us to find that the government actually has done a lot of protect the mountain. For example, they would have some people hired to patrol around to stop people from damaging the natural scenery of the mountain. Therefore, the Laoshan that we visit nowadays is more or less similar to the one that our ancestors visited.
It is very simple to visit Laoshan. You can take a bus to the middle part of this mountain, and then you could climb up to the top. Of course, you could choose not to climb up to the top, but you may miss a lot of beautiful sceneries.
