Dongling Park (in simplified Chinese????) is quite famous in Shenyang. Dongling is also called Fuling, which is the cemetery of the Queen of the Qing Dynasty as well as her husband, the founder of Qing Dynasty, Nurhachu. Dongling Park is located at 11 km north-east from Shenyang. Some Shenyang people would just call Dongling Park as Dongling or Fuling.

Fuling was founded in Jin Tiancong Three Year (1629), and the construction was completed in the eighth year in the Qing Shunzhi Period(1651). At that time, the scale of the building groups was not as grand as that we can see nowadays. The Dongling we see nowadays is the one after the expansion work under the approval of Emperor Kangxi and Emperor Qianlong during Qing Dynasty.

Now, the entire cemetery covers an area of more than 1,940,000 square meters. There are a lot of trees surrounding the Park, and there are also some little steams running around the park, giving a very comfortable environment. People believe that this could provide a very quiet, beautiful environment for the Emperor and the Queen.

As mentioned above, the cemetery was for the founder of Qing Dynasty. Therefore, throughout the Qing Dynasty, this place was considered as very important. Nearly every Emperor of Qing Dynasty had visited this Dongling and prayed for blessings. Almost all of them had written some poems or lines in this Dongling to commemorate their ancestors.

When you visit Shenyang in a tour, tour guide would probably introduce this Park to you because it is one of the most important historical remains of Shenyang. It is very important to Shenyang’s tourism because it attracts many people who are interested in Chinese history to visit. Therefore, you could try to visit this Park.

Actually, just as a park, Dongling Park is also very beautiful. There are a lot of flowers and trees and you could enjoy a very relaxing life here. It might make you be willing to spend a whole afternoon staying in the park, watching the beautiful flowers.
